BAGHDAD – Today’s Soldier in Focus is Spc. Nicholas Basile of Headquarters and
Support Company, 46th Engineer Combat Battalion (Heavy), attached to the 926th
Engineer Brigade, Multi-National Division Baghdad.
Basile, a native of Englewood, N.J., joined the military in 2006 and is a construction
equipment mechanic. His primary task is to repair engineer equipment as part of the
46th ECB (H) battalion’s Direct Support Unit. He spends countless hours in the motor
pool repairing constantly utilized equipment to keep it mission-ready for the battalion’
s four companies.
As a result of Spc. Basile’s leadership qualities, he was selected as the 46th ECB (H)
“Soldier of the Month” for November. He was then selected out of 675 other Soldiers
as the 926th’s Eng. Bde. “Soldier of the Year” for 2008.
“Participating in the boards is a great experience and you learn a lot in the process.
You meet Soldiers, first sergeants, and sergeants majors that you may not have
come in contact with otherwise,” stated Basile.
Basile is currently attending Towson University, majoring in Criminal Justice and is
just 21 credits shy of earning his degree. Basile is a leader in all he does and always
sets the standard.
